To celebrate the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson's voyage up the Hudson River on the Half Moon, a model of a colonial Dutch village will be created in Bowling Green Park , Broadway and Whitehall Streets, from Sept. 4 to 14.
The village will contain 12 traditional houses, a windmill and a greenhouse and be open, free, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Dutch food products will be available for sampling and purchase and there will be culinary workshops as well as other activities during the day.
From Sept. 5 to 20 there will be $24 menus (the amount in Dutch guilders that was paid for the island of Manhattan) at restaurants in Manhattan and Brooklyn for a Nieuw Amsterdam restaurant week promotion sponsored by the Netherlands Board of Tourism and Trade. On Sept. 10, Slow Food chapters in New York and Amsterdam will participate by eating oysters and drinking beer. In New York , the two will be served at Jimmy's No. 43, 43 East Seventh Street , from 7 to 9 p.m., and a simulcast from Amsterdam is planned. Admission, $5 at the door, is a donation to Slow Food. Oysters from local producers will cost $4 for three, benefiting the Peconic Land Trust. Ommegang beer will be $5 a glass. Other beers will be $6 to $12 a glass.
